About the Event

Workshop facilitators Araceli Carrera and Mike Sears will lead a four-hour professional development workshop focused on using exhibitions and performances to showcase student learning and advocate for arts education to classroom teachers, parents, school administrators, and other stakeholders.  Araceli and Mike will lead participants through the following topics: • Help stakeholders appreciate the value of what you do in the classroom; • Learn to plan culminating events intentionally using backwards design; • Understand how to assess what’s happening in the classroom and get back on track for your final performance or exhibition; • Explore new ideas and create a plan to infuse your culminating events with professionalism AND creativity; • Learn to demonstrate the discipline and skill building that goes into an artistic practice through your students’ culminating event presentations.
