Art & Life with Austin Jones

March 04, 2019

"The most important thing I’ve learned being an artist is, to be honest. I also think it’s important to use my art to make others happy. I also used art to capture the changes I’ve gone through in my life. For example, I am on the autism spectrum. I didn’t realize this until I was in my early 20s. I started to notice that I was different and I’ve used my art to help convey my perspective on the world."

"I strive to create physical dance with integrity. Much of my work is about a sense of community, responsibility, often reflecting human nature, with a need for compassion, strength, and a sense of togetherness. Whether in history, current events, dreams, or day dreams, I often celebrate those ideas through the positive aspects of humanity, or sometimes the despair or longing for it"

"Over the years, I veered into graphic design, but I always continued to paint.

About 15 years ago, I began to teach others how to express themselves creatively through painting."

Can the arts be a part of your success story?

January 01, 2020

Across the country, many schools, districts and states are engaging the arts as key teaching and learning strategies to achieve the goals of Title I. These strategies represent an important shift in understanding for arts education advocates, as they see their work supporting the larger goals of education equity, and for educators, as their understanding of the value of the arts shifts from the margin to the center. But most importantly, these strategies work, and are making a difference in the lives of many of our nation’s most vulnerable children.

California Arts Council Awards $15 Million to Record Number of Grantees - Good News for Arts for Learning SD

June 14, 2017

Grants totaling $15,032,837 have been awarded to various nonprofit organizations statewide this year, the California Arts Council announced today. A total of 1,076 grantees will receive state grant funding for their work spanning the Arts Council's 15 unique program categories, benefiting California's students, veterans, arts educators, at-risk youth, formerly incarcerated individuals, underserved populations, and communities at large.

Both the award amounts and number of recipients show marked growth over the previous year. As the result of a one-time $6.8 million state arts funding increase, the Arts Council nearly doubled its financial impact for the 2016-17 fiscal year. Investments in core grant programs and recent pilot programs increased by an average of 20 percent. Arts education grants were expanded to support field trips and after school and summer projects. The added funds were also used to develop three new pilot grant programs, aimed at serving formerly incarcerated individuals and supporting arts-focused public media and arts research.

The awards are the largest investment in grants for the Arts Council since the 2002-03 fiscal year.
