Professionalize your Teaching Practice with Sarah Cusey

About the Event
What do we as artists think of when we hear the word professionalism? How are we already communicating to partners and students that we are experts in our field and they can trust us? How can we overcome some common obstacles to this communication and support one another in a field that can be isolating? Workshop facilitator Sarah Cusey has worked as a classroom teacher, arts education administrator and mentor teaching artist since 2004. She also has a masters in business administration, making her uniquely qualified to address this topic. In her own words, "We'll look at defining professionalism for our unique context and how we can achieve the results we want without compromising who we are as artists. With intentionality and support, it is absolutely possible to show up for teachers and students in a way they can understand, while holding onto the flexibility and outside-the-box thinking that help make magic happen in the classroom."
Sarah will lead participants through the following topics: • Teaching Artist Philosophy - clearly, succinctly articulate why you do what you do. It's like an artist statement for your teaching practice and will help set expectations for every program you facilitate.
Learn practical tips and tricks for: o Effective communication with partners o Invoicing and record-keeping o Boundaries o Successful partnerships with classroom teachers
