Arts Education Programs for Military Connected Students & Families: DoDEA CUSD & DoDEA SDUSD Children & Youth in Transition Department
A4LSD is partnering with the Coronado School District and San Diego Unified School District (Children & Youth in Transition Department) through grants from the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA). The focus of these grants is to serve schools that have high populations of military connected students.
DoDEA at Coronado Unified School District is a four-year partnership that will serve all students in CUSD through arts integration, where the arts will serve as a vehicle for teaching English Language Arts in an innovative way. A4LSD teaching and CUSD classroom teachers will work together to develop ELA/Arts Curriculum, increase student engagement in ELA, and support military-connected students. A4LSD will also be providing district-wide professional development, empowering classroom teachers to use the arts in the classroom in a deeper and more effective way.
DoDEA at San Diego Unified School District is a two-year partnership that will serve six schools in SDUSD through arts integration where the arts will serve as a vehicle for implementing the Universal Design for Learning to teach academic subjects (CCSS, NGSS, or the California History-Social Science Standards). A4LSD has a special focus here on inclusion of special education students and supporting military-connected students.

Organization of Distinction
Rancho Santa Fe Foundation is committed to honoring and supporting the members of the San Diego military community for their service to our nation. Through its grantmaking, The Patriots Connection (TPC) at the RSF Foundation seeks to expand the capacity of San Diego area nonprofit programs that serve active duty military and veterans. A key component of The Patriots Connection is the San Diego Directory, which is a listing of trusted and qualified Organizations of Distinction in San Diego County that are addressing the continuing needs of local military and veteran families. TPC, through extensive outreach, rigorously and thoroughly evaluates organizations on eight essential criteria to determine their effectiveness, efficiency and use of best practices. Organizations of Distinction meeting these standards are included in the San Diego Directory.
